Google Invests $200 Million in Renewable Energy

In a time when energy is an important topic of conversation – not only in terms of the sustainability of our country, but also when it comes to the US competing with the world for renewable energy resources – Google makes a substantial investment in just that. Because Longhorn Solar chooses to show support for any type of advancement in alternative energy, we were happy to read, in Google’s blog, that the company has invested about $200 million in Texas’ Spinning Spur Wind Project.

The Spinning Spur WindAlternative Energy Sources - Photo Courtesy: 247wallst.com Project is located in the Texas Panhandle, just outside of Amarillo. Developed by EDF Renewable Energy, the facility offers 161 megawatts of renewable energy resources. The 70 turbines began full time work towards the end of 2012. The energy produced by the turbines will belong to the utility company SPS.

Google states: “We look for projects like Spinning Spur because, in addition to creating more renewable energy and strengthening the local economy, they also make for smart investments: they offer attractive returns relative to the risks and allow us to invest in a broad range of assets.”

Renewable energy is the future of this country; it is a simple fact. Google knows it and so do we. Not everyone has the resources to invest $200 million, but there are other, more affordable energy investments to make, such as solar panels for your home or business.
